One of my collection's newest (fall 2007), and certainly one of the
largest additions: Soar Art's 1/35th scale DORA Railgun. This
model was announced years ago, and few in the hobby thought it would
become reality. But, after years of seemingly zero progress, Soar
Art made good on their threat and unleashed this monster on us.
I purchased my kit from greatmodels.com, and must say that given the
relatively high cost of the kit, it was a bit of a grueling wait for the boxes
to arrive. But when they did, they did not
disappoint. That yellow bar on the large box is an architectural scale -
about 14" in length. The smaller box contains 17 pounds of aluminum barrel
and barbette: GreatModels gave a decent discount to those who pre-ordered all
three pieces at once, and since I can't seem to pass up a good deal... (click

Here's what is inside the hefty cardboard shipping containers:
Since I couldn't resist opening something, I naturally went for the aluminum
pieces. Here they are in all their glory. To give an idea of the
immense size of this kit, the photo on the right contains the barrel next to a
1/16th Tiger I.
Given everything else I've got going on at the moment (see USS Montana in the
Ships section) I won't be starting on this kit any time soon. Besides,
given that the finished length is almost six feet, I'm going to have to build a
new display cabinet for it.
In other news, Soar Art has announced the pending release of the KGM
Bismarck. In 1/144th scale.
